Warli art is a folk art that originated in Maharashtra, India traditionally created by women from the Warli and Malkhar koli tribes located outside of Mumbai. The art began when it was painted on the outside of homes to communicate without using words. The paintings are unlike traditional works of art in that they depict social scenes and do not focus on religion. Warli paintings usually show scenes of humans engaged in activities such as hunting, dancing, sowing and harvesting.
